Located on the edge of an island close to Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the Villa Kavel 1 residential project was designed by the Studioninedots for a young family and it offers a dynamic contemporary space with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and a sleek interior. The private areas of the house have shutters protecting them from views and the rooms inside combine raw concrete with warm timber and cold steel surfaces to create an industrial aesthetic with bright spaces. The waterfront nearby and a park offer great views and to take advantage of them the designers employed a diamond shape for the home with the extension of the south-west elevation. The ground floor is connected with the outdoors through the glazed surfaces and there is a covered terrace here protected from the wind. A part of the house is underground to comply with the height restrictions and this area contains the guest room, bathroom, storage, a study, the games room and a home cinema with the southern façade carved to allow natural light into the basement as well.
